I already have 2 mix breed Eskimos. But I so wanted a girl. Angel has been a joy.
She is everything that Eskimos are suppose to be. Smart. Obedient. Quick learner.
When I had had Angel just a couple weeks (say 10 weeks old), I had her in the yard playing w/ my other two dogs. My two grown Eskimo-wanna-be's listen to me very well. They can run and play loose under my watchful eye. Angel was still in the learning process. So I left a short leash on her just in case she got the notion to try to take off. The first time, I caught her w/ the leash. The next time she took the notion, she looked at me, looked at her leash, picked it up in her mouth and took off! Smart little booger! And while she was faster than me. She wasn't faster than Rascal, who corralled her back. She is now 7 months old, and responds quickly to the 'come' command.
Eskimos are quick learners. I have my dogs to 'sit' before putting on their leashes for walks or going outside. Now when Angel wants to go out, she'll come to the door and sit without being told when I'm ready to put her collar and leash on.
Same goes for 'treat time'. However, she learned the sit command means rear end on the floor. When she gets excited for a treat, the rear end does stays on the floor, but she will use her front paws to scoot closer to you if she feels there's just too much distance between the treat and herself. : )
She knows stay, lay, off (meaning off the furniture) and down (meaning go to the foot of the bed). She knows how to fetch & give. From the time she was 12 weeks old, she rarely had an 'accident' in the house. I had her spayed at 6 months. She did have a couple accidents that first week back at home. But I think that was just swelling, bad timing, etc. But she has since had 5 complete whole weeks tee totally accident free.
I take her down to my husband's shop about once a week to every other week. She doesn't know a stranger. When people come in, they can talk to or pet her. Or ignore her if they want. However, when someone comes to the house, she does expect them to greet her. She is just so sure they are coming to see her and everyone must love the Angel.
Eskimos want to please you. So when they do something wrong, it really doesn't take much at all to get across to them that was bad behavior. So displine is a bare minimum unlike other breeds I know.
Angel is on the small side of Eskimos by standard. But Susie knew she would be small and that's exactly what I was looking for. A small traveling companion, lap dog that rides well.
Susie cares for her puppies. And she loves to receive emails and pics of the babies to know how they are doing.
